Saturday Morning, April 7
7:00am!!! Mom we have work to do….???
So, on Saturday, March 31, the river started rising. Not my fault! Wasn’t even here!
Everything was moved out of the boatsheds and the river rose
to 6 feet above the shoreline. Happens
every spring or fall- whatever it is here right now. It
stayed that way until Wednesday, April 4.
Everything had to be moved offsite. Let’s go! All the boats and equipment are now trailored
back on site and “we” have to get everything back in the boatshed. C’mon you’ll
love it! Yes, I know I will at 7am.
Everything’s a party in Australia. So we arrive at the boatshed. All the boats are back and 20 or more rowers
and their parents are ready to go to work.
Military efficiency!!! But lots
of fun in the process. A parent has
breakfast on the barbie. He puts McDonald’s and Tim’s to shame. A mother brings her homemade mango
chutney. Plans are put in place for the school’s
rowing fundraiser in May - Beef, Bubbly,
and Blues. But no eating until the work is done.
Here are some pictures of the two hours of work, fun and
breakfast. And some girls with pink and
purple hair by the time we finish. I had
nothing to do with it!
See the measuring pole showing how high the river was only 4
days earlier –it reached the top. We
could have rowed to the boatshed.
John and I left with an invitation to Easter brunch at ‘the
property’ – a cattle ranch 20 kms away, owned by parents of two of John’s
rowers. More to follow on that one.
